Myrna Fernandez trained in Madras, India to be a doctor. Dr Fernandez later practiced in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Myrna, her husband Eric and their three sons Michael, Kirk and Steven, emigrated to Kalgoolie, Western Australia where some of her family resided.

Eventually she moved to the medical practice at Mallala and took over from Drs John and Jeanette Linn as the resident doctor in July 1969. The family integrated into the community and the boys went to the Mallala Primary School where they made friends. The delicious very hot curries that the family cooked were enjoyed by friends as well as the family.

Dr Fernandez came to Mallala with medical experiences gained in many parts of the world, and she continued the dedication to the patients which was started many years before.

She delivered many babies at the Mallala Hospital and always gave dedicated and loving care to her patients.

Whilst at Mallala she studied and obtained her Membership of the College of General Practitioners, and was also the Divisional Surgeon of the Mallala St Johns Ambulance Brigade.

In 1996 Dr Fernandez moved to Adelaide. In the year 2010 she continues to practice part-time as a GP at surgeries in Paralowie and Salisbury. She enjoys keeping her mind active and catching up with country colleagues at medical seminars and conferences. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.
